Governors Family Medical Group is a family medicine in Acworth, Georgia consisting of two family practitioners, Dr. Heath Trowell and Dr. Ashley Trowell.

Family Practice is a medical specialty which provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family. It is the specialty in breadth which integrates the biological, clinical, and behavioral sciences. The scope of family practice encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system, and every disease entity. Family Practice Physicians attend a four year medical school program, and then graduate from a 3 yr residency program.

Heath Trowell, M.D.

Dr. Heath Trowell, Family Medicine Dr. Shannon Heath Trowell attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science, Finance and Insurance degree (with Honors) and a Masters of Arts in International Business/Finance. He then attended the American University of the Caribbean in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles where he earned a Masters of Science in Medical Sciences (with Honors) and earned a Doctor of Medicine (with Honors). He completed his transitional year at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia and then completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Dr. Heath Trowell earned the Graduate Fellowship Award from the College of Business (Management Department) from the University of Florida. He was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta – Premedical Honors Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta – Premedical Honors Society, and Phi Chi – Honors Medical Fraternity.

Dr. Heath Trowell is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Knoxville Academy of Medicine.

Ashley Trowell, M.D.

Dr. Ashley Trowell, Family Medicine Dr Ashley Trowell attended the University of Georgia where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (with Honors). After receiving her undergraduate degree, she attended the American University of the Caribbean in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles where she earned a Masters degree in Medical Science (with Honors) and a Doctor of Medicine degree. She graduated top 3 in her medical class and was a member of AED.

Dr. Ashley Trowell completed her transitional year at The Medical Center in Columbus, Ga, and went on to complete her Family Medicine residency at University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Dr. Trowell was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and Beta Beta Beta – Pre-Medical Honor Society and was also a member of Phi Chi and Alpha Omicron Omega Honor Society.

Dr. AshleyTrowell is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Trowell has published several abstracts and articles for medical journals.

Dr. Ashley Trowell is very excited to be able to move back home to Georgia and give back to her community.
