Stress Test

Different crises in our lives produce different impacts and different responses to stress. Starting in the 1960's, Dr T. H. Holmes and Dr R. H. Rahe undertook a series of stress management studies to determine what events in life cause the greatest stress effects. As a result of this research they concluded that it may be possible to anticipate stress crises and assist people in overcoming their stress.

Future stress and our ability to cope with this stress can be determined with some accuracy using a simple method which involves measuring the past 12 months worth of 'Life Crisis Units' (LCU's). 'Life Crisis Units' (LCU's) allocates a number of "points" to different life events.

While this approach is a simplification of complex situations, using LCUs can give you a good start in adjusting to life crises and events.

In the past 12 months, which of the following major life events have taken place in your life (please check each event which is relevant to your situation).

Note: As stress levels vary from person to person, this information should only be seen as a guide. This test should not take the place of a proper medical assessment.
